Ultra recycling: GU Energy partnering with Terracycle

This isn't a scoop, GU Energy has put this program up a few years ago already. Just that, with my missed 2024 season, I still had a 2023 garbage batch to send.

Disclaimer: I'm not sponsored by Vespa anymore but still getting a discount from GU Energy, my last bit of sponsorship.

Is that creepy and disgusting to gather garbage and take a picture of it? Yeah, but for a good cause. I have no idea what Terracycle is able to recycle from all these sticky wraps, but that's less plastic going to the landfill.

Now, it takes a lot of discipline to take your garbage home with you. That picture even includes wraps I flew all the way back from Greece, after my 2023 Spartathlon! I know, this recycling isn't going to erase my carbon footprint from flying there and back. But, again, the idea of such wraps ending up in landfills is chilling.

By the way, GU and Terracycle accept any wraps, not just GU Energy ones. Just visit that page, enter your name and address, and you'll get an email right away to access to a free shipping label. The most challenging step is then to check your spam or promotions mailbox where that email is likely to land (I field tested for you!).

So now... ready, set, GU Terracycle! A small and easy step toward sustainable ultra running...

PS: a not-subtle invite for race directors to create special bins and advertise such collection and recycling. Actually, I recall the largest race organization, Aravaipa, offering that recycling service at some of their races.
